The “lebron james news today” is a sports article about the Lakers falling below .500 in LeBron James’ return from injury.
LeBron James returned to the Lakers on Monday night, but Los Angeles came up short against New Orleans. The game saw LeBron’s return after a two-week absence and despite him playing like his old self, the Lakers fell below .500 in their loss.
BOSTON (CBS) — In the Los Angeles Lakers’ 130-108 defeat to the Boston Celtics on Friday, LeBron James’ return after an extended layoff couldn’t fix his team’s uneven performance on both ends, which was on full show.
Los Angeles fell to 8-9 with more than a quarter of the season remaining, despite being one of the betting favorites to win the title.
When asked whether he can take the long view given the Lakers’ early injuries and how much of the 82-game regular-season schedule remained, James answered, “It’s never, ‘We have 65 games left.’” “We have to perform better, regardless of who is in the lineup. We have our system, and we need to improve it as quickly as possible so that we can play at a high level regardless of who is on the court…. There is no sense of impending doom. However, once we take the floor, there should be a feeling of urgency.”
James played for the first time in 212 weeks due to an abdomen strain and looked like himself, scoring 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. However, only three of his shot attempts came in the paint, which could be seen as a sign of the caution the 19-year veteran played with, as he dealt with his third major injury in four seasons.
“Physically, I felt well enough to know that I could trust my body and play tonight,” James added. “So I’m more interested in seeing how I feel when I get up tomorrow. If I’m progressing with my injury in the proper way, that’s the telltale indicator.”
However, no one knows where the Lakers are heading.
Despite the absence of starter center Robert Williams III (who averaged a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game), Boston outrebounded L.A. 51-33.
Russell Westbrook remarked, “I mean… rebound.” “There’s not a whole lot you can do about it. Simply go fetch the ball… it’s that easy.”
And the Lakers’ third-quarter difficulties continued, with the Celtics busting things up with a 33-21 period out of the break, after leading by as many as 14 points in the first half.
“Offensively, we have to become committed to playing as a team,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel said. “And when we do, it looks great, as we saw in the first quarter, and you can see the potential of what we can be. However, we got into the habit of hoarding the ball and not playing for each other enough. But that’s all part of getting to know each other and developing the proper habits. Guys who commit to the defensive side will have significant responsibilities on the field. If they don’t, then they aren’t. That’s all there is to it.”
Boston scored 130 points, the most the Lakers had given up all season.
“We can go out and compete every night, but I don’t believe it’s our offense, honestly,” Anthony Davis, who led Los Angeles with 31 points, said. “On the defensive end, we simply have to do a better job.”
There was a sense of déjà vu for Westbrook, who was surpassed by the point guard he was brought in to replace, Dennis Schroder, who had 21 points, six assists, and six rebounds to Westbrook’s 12, six, and four. It was yet another frustrating night for him and his new crew as they attempted to unite.
“I think the fact is that everyone on the outside has extremely high expectations of our team, which is appropriate,” Westbrook said. “But the fact is that we haven’t really played with each other genuinely, and nobody seems to care, and everyone asks the same question, and I’m weary of answering the same question every time we lose.”
“‘Hey, how long do you think it’ll take?’ it’s like. We have no idea. Even if we win, it will take a long time. So the fact is that there will be ups and downs during the season. It’s now something you do as a group. You can either draw away or join together to find things out.”
Kendrick Nunn (right knee) and Trevor Ariza (right ankle), who have yet to participate in a game this season, are still out. Austin Reaves, the rookie swingman, is still out with a hamstring issue.
James said he’d want to see the club decide on a consistent look, either playing big with DeAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard at center, or going small with Davis at the 5.
He also does not want the squad to hide their difficulties.
“It’s never as horrible as it seems or as nice as it feels,” James said. “As a result, I maintain an even keel during the travel.” I realize this is a massive [project]. For us, it’s a process. And I’ve always been at ease in unpleasant situations, so I’m looking forward to the process of us attempting to improve.
“And we’re improving. I’m not even trying. We’re going to improve. We’ll get better.”
The “stephen curry” is a player for the Golden State Warriors. He has been one of the best players in the NBA this season, and he will be missed when he is out with injury. The Lakers have fallen below .500 without James, and they are now looking to make a trade to improve their team.
