The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reportedly made an offer to the New York Jets for their safety Marcus Maye. The Bucs are hoping that they can get a pick in return and use it to help them make a run at signing free agent safety Eric Reid.
The tampa bay buccaneers defense is a defensive unit that has had some success over the past few years. This year, they are looking to trade Marcus Maye for a draft pick.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ secondary continues to take blows, with Richard Sherman the latest member to be out. Prior to Sherman’s injury, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Buccaneers were considering bolstering their secondary before the November 2 trade deadline, with Jets safety Marcus Maye perhaps reconnecting with former coach Todd Bowles. After Sherman’s injury, there may be even more pressure to act.
“I continue to hear Jets safety Marcus Maye would welcome a trade to a contender, and he’s a key guy to keep an eye on as the deadline approaches,” Fowler said. “The Jets are aware that they are at least a year away and could save $10.6 million on Maye’s contract. Joe Douglas, the general manager, does not place the same emphasis on safety as he does on the offensive and defensive lines, and it showed during negotiations. Maye felt underappreciated.
“…There aren’t any obvious safety requirements throughout the league.” Maye’s previous New York head coach, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, has had secondary injuries. The Rams, who are known for their aggressiveness, may also seek to improve their defensive backfield.”
Maye has started at free safety for the Jets for the last four seasons and had a career-high 88 tackles in 2020. With the No. 39 selection in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft, the Jets chose Maye.

‘We just keep playing with the guys we have,’ Arians says of secondary roster moves.
The Buccaneers have been active with in-season roster changes since the arrival of Tom Brady, so it will be interesting to see if they can pull off a trade before the deadline. Arians said after the Bucs’ victory against the Eagles that Sherman’s injury is unlikely to force the club to make another move.
During his Week 6 postgame news conference, Arians replied, “No, we just keep playing with the players we have and see what happens.” “We’ll see how lengthy the injury is and call the next guy up.”
Sherman is expected to miss many weeks due to a hamstring injury, according to reports.
Arians did not comment on the seriousness of Sherman’s injury after the Bucs’ Thursday Night Football victory. Arians said that it was a tweaked hamstring, but that the seriousness of the injury was unknown to the club. Sherman is expected to miss a “few weeks,” according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette acknowledged that if he had known about all of the injuries that would occur, he would not have predicted the team’s 5-1 record. Tampa Bay’s early success, according to Fournette, is due to the team’s depth.
“I wouldn’t believe him,” Fournette said after the game. “But, like I said, we have people that can back [it] up if anybody goes down.” “With this squad, it’s like there’s no drop off, and that’s what makes us unique.”
‘We have a lot of guys who are ready to step up,’ Barrett said of Sherman’s injury.
Bucs linebacker Shaq Barrett acknowledged that the loss of Sherman is a “heavy blow,” but noted that the club has prior experience dealing with injuries early in the season.
“That’s most certainly a big blow for us,” Barrett said during a news conference on October 15. “It simply placed us in a more difficult position, but we have a lot of people who are willing to stand up and do their job, so we kept it down.” We did, however, miss the presence of everyone who has been wounded or injured and has been unable to participate. We certainly missed them.”
